The short version

The Koi app doesn’t collect anything about you. It has no telemetry, no crash reporting and no studies, and that code is removed from the build rather than switched off, so there’s nothing to turn back on. A few services Koi keeps from Firefox, and your search engine, still receive requests of their own, listed below. Koi is open source, so you can check all of this in its code on GitHub.

What stays on your Mac

Your history, bookmarks, passwords, cookies and settings are kept in your Koi profile on your Mac. We never see them, and you can clear them at any time in Settings.

What Koi connects to

Like any browser, Koi makes a few connections to work. They don’t tell us who you are, but the services that receive them are run by others and may log those requests under their own policies.

  • Update checks to update.koi.surf, which send the version of Koi you’re running.
  • Search suggestions: what you type in the address bar goes to your search engine, Google unless you change it. You can turn suggestions off in Settings.
  • Services Koi keeps from Firefox, run by Mozilla under its own privacy notice: add-on updates, security and certificate lists, connection checks, and the remote settings Mozilla uses to update them.

Sync

If you sign in with a Mozilla account, Firefox Sync keeps your bookmarks, passwords and history in step across devices. It’s encrypted on your device before it’s stored on Mozilla’s servers, so neither Mozilla nor we can read it.

Agents

When you allow an AI agent, it connects to Koi directly on your Mac and works in a folder of its own. Koi sends nothing anywhere for this. The agent is a separate program, so what it reads from pages is handled under that agent’s own policy.

This website

koi.surf uses PostHog to understand how people use the site. The Koi app doesn’t include PostHog or any other analytics. The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which keeps standard request logs, such as IP addresses, for security and performance. Downloads come from GitHub, under GitHub’s privacy statement.

Changes

If this policy changes, we’ll update it here and change the date above.
